# LEFT

Returns a portion of the input string for an input number of characters starting from the left.

```js
LEFT(input_string, length)
```

#### Parameters

* `input_string` - The string input.
* `length` - The number of characters to keep.

#### Examples

```js
LEFT("Hello World", 5)
```

**Result:** `Hello`
